Day Treatment, also known as Partial Hospitalization (or PHP) is a form of drug and alcohol treatment that is less structured than residential treatment and more strucured than intensive outpatient. The purpose of Day Treatment is to help a client gradually transition from an intensive residential treatment environment to a less structured level of care.
Just as the names Partial Hospitalization or Day Treatment imply, clients engaged at this level of care are in programming during the day on Monday-Friday while they reside at home or in a sober living facility. Standard Day Treatment hours are from 9:30am-3:30pm Monday-Friday at the NorthStar Transitions outpatient office.
Most Day Treatment groups begin the day with a ‘check-in’ followed by the introduction of a topic or activity by the group facilitator and then a ‘process group.’ Lunch is provided for clients in Day Treatment.
While engaged in Day Treatment, clients see an individual therapist twice per week for 90 minutes each session. Clients also see an additional psychiatrist for comprehensive psychiatric assessment and medication management.
All clients at the Day Treatment level of care are required to be drug and alcohol tested in order to monitor their continued sobriety.
