NorthStar Transitions is an addiction treatment center located in Boulder, Colorado. They pride themselves on using modern approaches to addiction treatment including evidence-based therapies and experiential therapies. Using these techniques in all of their programs helps set their clients up for a lifetime of sobriety and recovery.
NorthStar offers residential treatment programs for men and women at lodges located in the beautiful Colorado wilderness. Each program offers a number of treatment methods to help their clients succeed.
What Is Residential Treatment and What Does It Include?
A residential treatment center provides treatment for addiction and mental health concerns while living at a facility. It is also known as rehabilitation, or rehab, for short. Treatment and care are given around the clock to help maintain long term recovery in the client’s future.
While living at the treatment center, clients will receive the necessary counseling, therapy, medications, and other forms of treatment to help them maintain long term sobriety and to treat their addiction properly.
All residential programs are different. This means that an individual’s needs will influence what treatment center they go to. However, most treatment centers offer the same general services, such as:
- Individual and group therapy
- Family or couples counseling
- Education about addiction
- Medical detox
- Skill-building sessions
- Follow-up care
- Referrals to support groups
Typically, a combination of medically supported treatment, and various types of therapy is used for treatment. This mix of treatment options can give clients the best chances at recovery and help nurture their sobriety.
NorthStar’s Residential Treatment
At NorthStar Transitions, residential treatment for men and women is available. The programs are individualized to make sure each client’s needs are met. There are always five staff members on duty, and the medical director meets with each client once a week for at least one hour. The medical director is also on call 24/7.
Women’s Residential Treatment
NorthStar’s residential treatment helps to stabilize clients and let them acclimate to a sober lifestyle. Traditional treatment methods are used alongside holistic, experiential therapies. Recreation is an added component that helps relieve symptoms of depression and anxiety. This helps decrease the risk of relapse, which is why NorthStar residents take part in some type of physical activity every day.
Various therapies are offered, such as:
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Group Therapy
- Experiential Therapy
- Somatic Therapy
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Relapse Prevention Workshops
Holistic therapies are also offered, including mindfulness training, meditations, and life skills training. Recreational therapies include yoga, hiking, gym workouts, and canoeing.
The lodge that the women stay in is comfortable, safe, and supportive. NorthStar has ensured the space is conducive to a positive recovery environment. It includes a fully stocked kitchen with fresh food that clients can prepare for themselves. The women are chauffeured for appointments and meetings to and from the lodge.
Five staff members are always on duty, and the medical director visits each patient for at least one hour per week. They are on-call 24/7.
Men’s Residential Treatment
The men’s lodge is 6500 square footage of luxury. It is surrounded by 53 acres of a huge national forest and rugged train. The environment is secluded, calm, and natural, perfect for a supportive recovery environment. It has space for 15 clients at a time that develops into a close-knit group. All clients are men over the age of 18.
The available therapy and holistic therapy programs are the same as the women’s center. However, recreational therapy programs include a few more activities, such as:
- Trail running
- Rock climbing
- Weight & athletic equipment available at the lodge
Just as at the women’s residential center, five staff members are always on duty, The medical director also visits each patient for at least one hour per week. They are on-call 24/7.
NorthStar’s residential treatment centers for men and women aid their clients in planning for life after the treatment center. This helps set clients up for success once the treatment ends.
Typically, aftercare plans involve sober living arrangements or intensive out-patient treatment (IOP) close to the area of the client’s home or sober living home. If the client is staying close to Boulder after the residential treatment program, they are welcome to take part in the 12-week intensive outpatient program that NorthStar offers. This works alongside various sober living homes that the patient can live in while going through IOP.
