What Is Residential Treatment and What Does It Include?

A residential treatment center provides treatment for addiction and mental health concerns while living at a facility. It is also known as rehabilitation, or rehab, for short. Treatment and care are given around the clock to help maintain long term recovery in the client’s future. While living at the treatment center, clients will receive the necessary counseling, therapy, medications, and other forms of treatment to help them maintain long term sobriety and to treat their addiction properly. All residential programs are different. This means that an individual’s needs will influence what treatment center they go to. However, most treatment centers offer the same general services, such as:

  • Individual and group therapy
  • Family or couples counseling
  • Education about addiction
  • Medical detox
  • Skill-building sessions
  • Follow-up care
  • Referrals to support groups

Typically, a combination of medically supported treatment, and various types of therapy is used for treatment. This mix of treatment options can give clients the best chances at recovery and help nurture their sobriety.

Aftercare Planning

NorthStar’s residential treatment centers for men and women aid their clients in planning for life after the treatment center. This helps set clients up for success once the treatment ends.Typically, aftercare plans involve sober living arrangements or intensive out-patient treatment (IOP) close to the area of the client’s home or sober living home. If the client is staying close to Boulder after the residential treatment program, they are welcome to take part in the 12-week intensive outpatient program that NorthStar offers. This works alongside various sober living homes that the patient can live in while going through IOP.
