Residential treatment is often considered the gold standard in addiction recovery. It provides a deeply therapeutic experience that immerses clients in a supportive environment, giving them the chance to take a step back from the stresses of daily life. While in a residential program, clients live on-site so they can truly focus on themselves, surrounded by like-minded peers and a team of compassionate, dedicated professionals.
NorthStar Transitions treats a small volume of clients at a time, providing those seeking residential treatment with the life-changing opportunity to experience personalized care in a close-knit community. Here, people of all genders are able to stabilize and acclimate themselves to a new, sober lifestyle without substances on board.
Our 6,500 square foot luxury lodge sits on 53 acres and is surrounded by an expanse of national forest and rugged terrain. Located 18 miles northwest of Boulder, our secluded, tranquil setting and natural backdrop is the perfect environment for self-reflection and healing.

Our individualized approach begins before a client walks through our doors. We take a great deal of care during our admissions process, as we want to be sure each client will truly benefit from staying at the Lodge.
Residents are invited to stay for up to 30 days. In some instances, a 14-day stay will be considered if the client has completed residential treatment within the immediately preceding six months.
Residential treatment is often considered the gold-standard in addiction recovery. It provides a deeply therapeutic experience that immerses clients in a recovery-oriented environment, allowing them to take a step back from daily living and all of its stresses and temptations. While in treatment, clients live on-site away from drug or alcohol use, unhealthy relationships and dangerous or unstable environments — instead, they’re surrounded by a compassionate team of addiction experts and like-minded peers who are also trying to get sober. This gives them the opportunity to truly focus on their recovery and begin the healing process in a safe, supportive place.
For women in recovery, gender-specific residential care further reinforces a sense of safety and support by eliminating any distress they may feel in a co-ed facility. Substance abuse among women is often rooted in domestic violence, sexual assault and other traumas. Providing an environment where women can feel safe has been shown to improve therapeutic engagement and treatment outcomes. Gender-specific care can also address the specific needs of women and help them overcome the challenges they face in recovery, including mental health concerns, intimacy problems, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, childcare and more.
If you’re a woman seeking help for substance abuse, the Women’s Gender-Informed Residential Treatment Program at NorthStar Transitions is recommended for those who:

Clients who stay at The Lodge at NorthStar experience the best of traditional treatment methods and holistic, experiential therapies. We know that traditional forms of therapy have a long history of use in rehab facilities, but research also shows the astounding value of incorporating experiential, recreational activities into the recovery curriculum. The added element of recreation helps combat challenges like stress, depression, anxiety and boredom during the recovery process, improving treatment outcomes for both men and women. To reap these benefits, residents engage in some form of physical activity each day.
We take individualized care very seriously, and it all starts with our team. Our facility is run by an extremely talented group of highly trained professionals who strive to provide clients with the best level of care imaginable. This is made possible by our high staff-to-client ratio, which ensures that each individual receives the support and attention they need to heal. We take great pride in our commitment to provide high-quality addiction treatment, which goes above and beyond the industry standard.
There are up to five staff members on duty at any given time. Our full-time clinical director’s sole focus is on our clients and our medical director meets with residents for one hour every week, in addition to being on-call 24/7. We’re also staffed by a team of several masters-level, licensed clinicians who specialize in addiction recovery, as well as several technicians who are working toward their own substance abuse counseling licenses.
Aftercare planning is crucial to ensuring a client’s continued care and success upon discharging from residential treatment. A typical aftercare plan includes sober living arrangements and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) in the client’s home area.
Should a client desire to remain in Boulder for aftercare, NorthStar Transitions offers a 12-week intensive outpatient program and works with several local sober living homes where clients can reside while engaged in IOP.
Having a safe, supportive environment can make all the difference in a client’s journey to recovery. We’re close to the city, but secluded enough for residents to focus entirely on healing. We want you to feel comfortable here, so our mountaintop lodge is cozy, welcoming and warm, with all the amenities you’d expect from Boulder’s premier treatment facility.
If you or someone you love is ready for recovery, don’t wait. The Lodge at NorthStar provides high-quality addiction treatment programs to help people of all genders continue their journey of healing.
