NorthStar Transitions’ residential program for women provides our clients an opportunity to stabilize and acclimate themselves to a new lifestyle without substances on board.
Our clients are overseen by licensed mental health and substance abuse professionals, as well as a board-certified addiction psychiatrist and a physician’s assistant to monitor and administer medications. Our structured, skills-based programming and high staff-to-client ratio allow us to provide those seeking residential treatment with the life-changing opportunity to experience personalized care in a close-knit, supportive environment.
Situated on the south end of Boulder, we are conveniently located while providing a natural backdrop as the perfect environment for self-reflection and healing.

Our individualized approach begins before a client walks through our doors. We take a great deal of care during our admissions process, as we want to be sure each client will truly benefit from staying with us.
Residential treatment is often considered the gold-standard in addiction recovery. It provides a deeply therapeutic experience that immerses clients in a recovery-oriented environment, allowing them to take a step back from daily living and all of its stresses and temptations. While in treatment, clients live on-site away from drug or alcohol use, unhealthy relationships and dangerous or unstable environments — instead, they’re surrounded by a compassionate team of addiction experts and like-minded peers who are also trying to get sober. This gives them the opportunity to truly focus on their recovery and begin the healing process in a safe, supportive place.
For women in recovery, gender-specific residential care further reinforces a sense of safety and support by eliminating any distress they may feel in a co-ed facility. Substance abuse among women is often rooted in domestic violence, sexual assault and other traumas. Providing an environment where women can feel safe has been shown to improve therapeutic engagement and treatment outcomes. Gender-specific care can also address the specific needs of women and help them overcome the challenges they face in recovery, including mental health concerns, intimacy problems, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, childcare and more.

Clients who join the NorthStar Transitions community experience the best of traditional treatment methods and holistic, experiential therapies. We know that the traditional forms of therapy we rely on are rooted in evidence, but research also shows the astounding benefits of experiential, recreational activities as they relate to addiction recovery. The added element of recreation helps to combat depression and anxiety, bolstering recovery as a result. NorthStar residents engage in some form of physical activity each day.
We are committed to providing our residents with the highest level of individualized care possible, which starts with our team. At NorthStar Transitions, we pride ourselves on our high staff to client ratio. We are staffed by an incredibly talented group of highly trained professionals who strive to provide our clients with the best level of care imaginable.
The women’s residential staff include residential counselors who are on-site 24/7, a full-time Assistant Clinical Director, full and part-time Residential Clinical Therapists, and our Medical Director and Physician’s Assistants who oversee clients at all levels of care at NorthStar.
Aftercare planning is crucial to ensuring a client’s continued care and success upon discharging from residential treatment. A typical aftercare plan includes sober living arrangements and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) in the client’s home area.
Should a client desire to remain in Boulder for aftercare, NorthStar Transitions offers a 12-week intensive outpatient program and works with several local sober living homes where clients can reside while engaged in IOP.
Residing in a safe, supportive environment can make all the difference in a woman’s journey to recovery. We want our residents to feel comfortable here, and our treatment center is cozy, welcoming and warm.
