NorthStar Transitions offers an extensive experiential therapy and wellness program to clients enrolled in addiction treatment services. The experiential therapy and wellness program is on-going throughout all levels of care (residential-outpatient).
Experiential therapy is designed to take clients out of their element and get them to engage with their peers and therapist through authentic interactions that may not otherwise happen in traditional group therapy. Experiential therapy breaks down a client’s walls and allows them to practice a skill or learn a concept through an experience rather than a facilitated group or lecture.
During and after each experiential therapy activity, clients process the activity with the therapist facilitating the exercise and the other group participants. Processing the activity allows clients the opportunity to further highlight and discuss the concepts and skills being learned and to learn from each others experience and insights.
NorthStar Transitions also offers general wellness programming. The purpose of our general wellness program is to help clients develop healthy habits and routines while in addiction treatment. Research has demonstrated that exercise and healthy diet are highly correlated with
NorthStar helps to instill exercise and healthy eating habits in our clients lives while they are still in addiction treatment so that they continue to use those tools to help regulate their mood long after they have have completed our program.
Clients in NorthStar’s residential addiction treatment program are required to participate in the wellness program. Clients at Day Treatment, Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Outpatient levels of care are encouraged but not required to participate in wellness programming.
